Patron Groups

Join our most dedicated supporters and intimately engage with the Museum, its collection, and artists.

The Global Council is the Studio Museum’s premier invite-only Patron Group. These dedicated and passionate art lovers, philanthropists, and collectors share an interest in engaging with Black art and culture within the United States and across the globe.

Through various exclusive events with Museum leadership, Global Council supporters become deeply involved in the Studio Museum community, build relationships with others who have a passion for art and collecting, and play a vital role in sustaining and advancing the Museum’s mission.

The Acquisition Committee is an invite-only group comprised of select individuals who meet three times a year and support the growth of the Museum’s collection through philanthropic support and their knowledge of artists, collecting, and the art market.

The Chairman’s Circle is the Museum’s newest, invite-only Patron Group. This group is designed for our most dedicated supporters who are interested in engaging more deeply with the Museum, its collection, and the artists in its circle. Participation in the Chairman’s Circle provides unique access to the Director and Chief Curator, Thelma Golden; the Board Chairman and Museum Trustees; and other patrons who share a commitment to the Studio Museum’s mission.

Program Support

The Studio Museum brings together, serves, and supports everyone, from children and teens who never imagined becoming artists, to creative giants whose names are now in history books. By supporting our education programs, exhibitions, and residency, you are helping to build careers and expand the narrative of Black art and art history.

Education has been at the core of the Museum’s mission since its founding, making learning and engagement programs accessible for all audiences.

Exhibitions at the Studio Museum have boldly explored the most pressing social and political issues, all made possible through ongoing unrestricted support to our Exhibition Fund .

The Studio Museum has earned recognition for its catalytic role in advancing the work of visual artists of African and Latin American descent through its Artist-in Residence program, supporting over 100 graduates to date who have gone on to highly regarded careers.

Planned Giving

Help ensure that the Studio Museum in Harlem can continue to serve diverse artists and audiences for generations to come by making a planned gift. The Lea K. Green Memorial Fund

The Lea K. Green Memorial Fund was established by Lea’s family and friends to honor and celebrate her incredible service and dedication to the Studio Museum.

With your support, the Fund will further realize opportunities for the Museum to connect audiences with prominent artists and cultural producers—all in honor of Lea’s incredible legacy.

FAQs

The Studio Museum is currently closed for the construction of its new building. We will set a date for the opening after we complete substantial construction in 2024.

The new building occupies the site on West 125th Street on which the Studio Museum had been operating since 1982.

The Studio Museum offers a free one-year membership to IDNYC participants. Benefits include invitations to openings, early registration access for programming, our digital newsletter delivered straight to your inbox, and much more. Sign up for an IDNYC membership using your IDNYC ID number.

Apple Devices:

iPhones have a native app called Apple Wallet. Click the "Download" button in the email you received on your iPhone, then "Add to Wallet," then "Add." Your digital membership card will automatically download to the Apple Wallet app.

To access the digital wallet, swipe down on your home screen to activate the Search function. Type "Wallet" into the search bar. Then, tap the Wallet icon that appears under the "Applications" header. From there, you will be able to access your digital card!

Android Devices:

If you have an Android device, we would like to share our recommendation for Google Wallet as the #1 option for Android users. Google Wallet is a native OS app that is easy to use, reliable, secure, and already pre-installed on most Android devices.

If you choose the Google Wallet app:

▪ Make sure the Google Wallet app is installed. If not, you may download it from here.

▪ Open the email directly from your phone

▪ Tap on the "Download Membership" button

▪ Click on "add to Google Wallet"

▪ A preview will appear. Click on "Save to Google Wallet"

▪ In some cases, Google Wallet might ask you to log in so you can save it to an account. Please log in to continue (no credit card information should be required)

▪ The card will be saved to Google Wallet and you will be able to access it from the Google Wallet app at any moment.

We strongly encourage Members to use Google Wallet as the primary digital wallet solution for Android, but will continue to help you in case you’d like to use an alternative Android wallet option, like Wallet by Wallet Union.
