Artist Walk-Through with Charisse Pearlina Weston
March 9, 2024, 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM
MoMA PS1
Staff entrance, 46-01 21st Street, Long Island City, NY 11101
Join Studio Museum in Harlem 2022–23 artist in residence Charisse Pearlina Weston for an in-person walk-through of her work in And ever an edge: Studio Museum Artists in Residence 2022–23, currently on view at MoMA PS1.
Through multimedia artworks, Weston examines Black interior life, resistance, and surveillance technologies. Her work on view in And ever an edge continues her research on the ideological apparatuses of surveillance through her consideration of Occupied Look—a program started in 1981 by the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development. Using repetition, folding, and concealment, Weston creates glass sculptures and photographic works on canvas that present Black interiority as a site of resistance.
This program is free. However, space is extremely limited and registration is required.
MoMA PS1 support for And ever an edge is generously provided by the Tom Slaughter Exhibition Fund and the MoMA PS1 Annual Exhibition Fund. The Studio Museum in Harlem Artist-in-Residence program is funded by the Glenstone Foundation. Additional support for the Artist-in Residence program provided by The American Express Kenneth and Kathryn Chenault Sponsorship Fund; National Endowment for the Arts; Joy of Giving Something; Doris Duke Charitable Foundation; Jerome Foundation; Anonymous; Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation; and by endowments established by the Andrea Frank Foundation; the Jacob and Gwendolyn Knight Lawrence Trust; and Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
