Juliana Huxtable is an interdisciplinary artist who implements self-portraiture, text-based work, performance, and music to explore race, gender, identity, and queerness. Untitled (Psychosocial Stuntin’), part of the series “Universal Crop Tops for All the Self Canonized Saints of Becoming,” references Huxtable’s own body and experiences. To “stunt” is to show off and flaunt, while “psychosocial” points to the ways in which the self is always inscribed within a broader landscape. Here, Huxtable represents herself in resolute fashion with a defiant gaze that challenges narrow ideas of gender, sexuality, and beauty.
