Each work in Riffs on Real Time is a stack of photographs and texts, assembled with an attention to color and photographed from above. Here, Leslie Hewitt places a photograph on top of an orange book set on plush orange carpet. These objects are as familiar as they are strange—items that might have been pulled from boxes in our grandparents’ basement, but we do not recognize them. Hewitt’s images speak to, assemble, and document a kind of collective family history and archive that shows the links we all share.
